The Gearbulk fleet consists mainly of open hatch vessels with box shaped holds. These vessels are designed to transport unitised cargoes, such as forest products and non-ferrous metals.
Gearbulk vessels are interchangeable and we can therefore adapt quickly and effectively to customer requirements. Specialised cargo handling equipment is onboard all Gearbulk vessels, as well as in the main ports of call.
Box shaped holds allowing full access to all parts of the hold with no deck overhang. Smooth surfaces minimises the risk of cargo damage. A combination of box shaped holds with specific lifting equipment enables any load to be placed directly at the final stowage location.
Double hulls are universally accepted by the shipping industry as the safest means of transportation, minimising the risk to the environment.
High crane lifting capacities and tanktop strengths make our vessels ideally suited to the transportation of granite, steel and other heavy cargoes.
Dehumidification: It is important to protect sensitive cargoes from changes in temperature and humidity levels that occur between different climatic zones. Gearbulk vessels carrying sensitive cargoes are equipped with dehumidification plants, alllowing vessels to control temperature and humidity levels in the cargo holds, thereby minimising the risk of cargo damage.
Large unobstructed deck areas and box shaped holds make the vessels ideal for project cargoes. These often require complicated lifting and stowage techniques, but Gearbulk`s experience in contracts of this type allow these challenges to be met.
Gearbulk has a range of other services covering dry bulk and liquid commodities.
Gearbulk has a number of vessels with special features for specific trades such as combination carriers with tanks installed in some holds for liquid cargoes. The main liquid cargoes carried are liquid pitch requiring high heat and orange juice which is carried under reefer/freezer conditions.
Gearbulk also operates a worldwide modern fleet of geared bulk carriers in the 50,000 - 56,000 dwt Super Handymax segment.
These vessels are equipped with cranes and carry their own grabs and are capable of self loading and self discharging.
